By Boluwatife Ezekiel Olaleye When you get me feel high: I know that I am not what you say I am. Common stop! Heaven and earth knows you are only teasing me, trying to blow my mind, probably out of hatred or likeness, hate or envy, I can’t really decipher but I can’t help it but feel please d within myself and dream high when you call me An Expert Pianist even when I am not. When  you get me feel happy: It kinda feels weird to you but I know and you know that I am not all that fantastic yet and in fact, I am not the type that gets invited to concert, churches, wherever and I don’t make money from what I do, do I even have an album of songs to my name but nevertheless, what everything means to me is that I am getting better at it, I have improved but not enough to be called A Professional Pianist. When you get me feel insulted: Am I an expert? Oh that is Hell NO! Alright, I will ask you again, “Are you a professional?” Common man, NOT YET! But don’t you ever d...

Education: Is It Really Worth It?

Image
By Olaleye Boluwatife Ezekiel         Education! Education! Education! This is a word we cannot do without hearing every day. It is a word that is so much elevated all around the world. It is something one can be proud of, a field that is worthy of specialization. Before digging deep into the contingents of this article, it is paramount that education be defined. WHAT IS EDUCATION? Education has no single all-embracing definition. It can be said to be the knowledge a...

Just ask!

Image
By Olaleye Boluwatife Ezekiel I couldn’t describe the feeling but I felt free within me.   It looked like an impossible task, like that was how I was going to go on to be all my life but I came out conquerous. It was just too great in my life that my silence was beginning to make people view me as foolish, but I wasn’t, I just couldn’t open my mouth Those days when I didn’t have enough money on me to take me home from school but because of the fear of asking, the fear that I might get embarrassed, I would keep mute and trek home...  Even as the practicing journalist that I am, fear was still there. While others would do a vox pop within a matter of, presumably, fifteen minutes, I would use almost hours, spending most of my time walking about like a vagabond, asking myself, “should I ask this man? Should I ask this woman?” afraid to ask, only to realize that when I take the courage, the highest I would receive is “Sorry, but I am not...

Poverty is not for You!

Image
By Odunayo Akinlade Poverty is said to be a state of having little or no money and few or no material possession but in this context, it is regarded as when one lacks the basic things of life. Is it financial wealth, wisdom and understanding, experience and many more? Poverty is regarded as a symbol associated with less developed countries but unfortunately it is not an economic abstraction, it is a human condition, grief and pain for the human race. Whether we like it or not, not everyone is born with a silver spoon. It is a two way thing, if you are not living in prosperity, then you are living in poverty but what do you do when you find yourself in poverty, what do you do take yourself for when you are born into a poor home? Growing up poor, I knew that my goal was to reach high heights, be rich in terms of material things and in wisdom, knowledge and understanding. I always knew that my dream was to work hard to be prosperous in life and affect the lives o...

WHY DO I DO WHAT I DO?

Image
WHY DO I DO WHAT I DO?                                                                By Patricia Effiong Bassey We have different kinds of human personalities in this world of ours and as such, we see different exhibitions of different attitudes as days go by but have we ever sat ourselves down to give it a thought: WHY DO I DO WHAT I DO? Regardless of whether the things we do are good or bad, asking ourselves this question will go a long way in correcting our behaviours… correcting our behaviours in what sense? It is not an exaggeration to say that majority of youths have gone down the wrong path. You see youths who are terrorists, youths are the ones politicians use to perpetrate their evil ...

What happens when you allow criticisms get to you

Image
By Olaleye Boluwatife Ezekiel  This is for you and every other youth out there reading this piece to view criticism differently from now henceforth. You must know that criticisms are part of life, they are meant to happen because no one is perfect. No one can do anything to please everyone because it is not possible! No matter how good a person you think you are, people will always criticize you. So what do you do when this ever-present critics come knocking? The great Aristotle once said, "There is only one way to avoid criticism; do nothing, say nothing and be nothing".  Is that  what we want for ourselves? To live a life of vanity? A life of no accomplishment whatsoever? To live without making impacts? When people disapprove or point out faults in anything you do, t...

Why the White Collar Job?!

Image
By Patricia Bassey Effiong You might be wondering… What is a white-collar job? Is it an occupation that requires one to always be on white dress or is it that kind of job meant for the whites and not the blacks? What category of professions does it falls under and what do I stand to gain from it? In the real sense, it is a job that requires you to work in an Organization, say an office instead of a factory, and dress in a corporate manner e.g. Suits, Shirts and Trousers and so on. A white-collar job constitutes the class of salaried employees whose duties do not call for the wearing of work clothes or protective clothings. Most Nigerian youths want to work in companies where they feel they will earn substantial amount of money as well as earn respect for themselves in the society. Youths want to dress in suits and other foreign dresses because of the requirements of white-collar jobs but forget the fact that these companies, these offices have limitations to...
